The gold rush of the 19th century was instrumental in developing Australian coins. As valuable metal emerged from Australian soil, the raw material was provided for local currency and Australian minting was born.

Each coin's obverse features Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II effigy by Ian Rank-Broadley.

Each coin is issued as Australian Legal Tender.
